My husband was previously married before he met me. That marriage yielded two boys, ages 2 and 3. We have the boys on a week on/week off basis.
Given that the kids are so young, it?s been easier for my husband (and me) to establish me as a parent in the boys? eyes. They obey me and act out in normal toddler ways. We are consistent with rules and discipline and make it known to the world that our marriage comes first so their mother?s efforts to undermine me as a parent are unsuccessful. I thank God every day that my husband doesn?t parent out of guilt, and is a great leader for our family.
However, my question is this: will the boys think that marriage is not a good thing because their mother and father are divorced? Our priest has talked about modeling good marriages for our kids. Will my boys think that marriage is a bad thing, or can they still learn to appreciate marriage?
