The Computer Information Technology Department at Fresno City College has created a pilot enrichment Online course that is open for High School Juniors and Seniors to enroll at a minimal cost. The course fulfills the local FCC requirements for AA and AS degrees, ?Familiarity with computer concepts and computer use?? Course Section: CIT-12-45242 Computer Literacy Basic introduction to computers and their usage. Basic principles of hardware and software; shopping for a personal computer; social issues associated with the role of computers in the world today; and an introduction to word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet principles and usage. Fulfills the computer literacy graduation requirement. Entry Level Skills: Upon entering the course, the student should be able to: ? 1.? Employ various techniques to recognize and use new vocabulary. ? 2.? Demonstrate skills to employ reading strategies and the reading process ? 3.? Write short compositions which limit subjects, unify content by common purposes or main ideas, adequately develop ideas, use appropriate diction, and avoid extensive errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics Specific Instructional Objectives: Upon successful completion, the student will be able to: Use Microsoft Office (or the current software application suite currently used for instruction by the Fresno City College Computer Information Technology (CIT) Department) and ? 1.? Use a word processing application program to design and create a document with specified font characteristics, margins, justification, line spacing and other specified format characteristics ? 2.? Use a spreadsheet application program to design and create a spreadsheet workbook containing formulas, predefined functions, and graphs ? 3.? Use presentation software to create an electronic slide presentation Use and operate a microcomputer to perform basic functions including: ? 1.? Sending and receiving e-mail ? 2.? Conducting searches on the WWW for specified information ? 3.? Describing basic microcomputer hardware components Identify and describe how computers are used in various areas, such as education, science, business, transportation, and the government and the effects of those usages on society in general. Create the specifications for purchasing a microcomputer for home use. As determined by his/her performance on assignments, examinations, and participation. ? 1.?
