Atlantic City casinos

A New Jersey Senate committee holds a hearing Tuesday on legislation that would allow online wagering on casino games in the Garden State.

Governor Christie vetoed a similar law that was approved in the last legislative session.
Senator Ray Lesniak is optimistic the outcome will be different this time.

"I believe that the governor has been satisfied that this legislation is constitutional and that we can get Internet gaming run by our casinos up and running as soon as possible, hopefully by September."

Isreal Posner, the executive director of the Institute of Gaming at Richard Stockton College, says that could end up expanding the customer base at Atlantic City casinos.

?"It allows people to access the fun that many people have when they play these games, and once they start at a game on the Internet they may want to try to see what it's like when it's combined with a total experience

Senator Lesniak wants the state to be a leader in online wagering that he believes would generate millions of dollars for New Jersey casinos and create good paying tech jobs.

I've never been into one, not just because I'm a tight arse an wouldn't dream of payin ?3 for a cardboard cup of froth, but because I hate that whole I have to get my caffeine fix first thing cause I'm sooo stressed with work an my busy lifestyle thing. What a load of bollocks these people spout about a Tall skinny Latte or a Double decaf soya latte. What's an Americano? A flat white? What is this nonsense? It's Coffee. Maxwell house or Nescafe, that's as much as you need to know about Coffee. Or perhaps a fair trade brand that tastes crap but makes you feel like your doin your bit to save the planet. ' Cafe Nero' in Old Compton Street, now there's a good one from about 8 years ago. If I'd worked a late session then that was my place to pop in for a brew and read my notes. Pretty much what you'd expect, but always some entertainment after midnight. The coffee was okay but the people watching was second to none. One time, I nearly had a problem with some pissed up arse who stumbled in one night and decided that he wanted a pop at me for 'looking at him'. I look at everybody. It's what I do. A 6' tall transvestite friend of mine pushed him out before I could say 'eh?' Cost me a round of coffees, mind. Gas, grass or ass - ain't nobody rides for free. I miss all that sometimes. Goodshaw Boy - when we go to That London, pitching our latest sit-com* then I'll take you in there! I'll show you something that'll make you change your mind... . *Working Title is Holland's Hills. It's about two brothers called John and Phil Hill (geddit?) who work for Holland's Pies in Baxenden - but they are very different characters. There are various ensemble characters including a hippy stoner chippy owner, a mysanthropic pub landlord, and a 70 year old Haslingden hill farmer who bobsleighs down Cribden. Then, one day, the lads are given the opportunity to take over their own factory after Holland's closes due to the VAT increase on pies. Hilarity ensues. . Friday Illusion: Ghostly spiral appears from nowhere

Don't worry, the mesmerising swirls in this video won't hypnotise you. But once the moving pattern disappears, you may be surprised when a ghostly spinning spiral appears before your eyes.

The illusion was accidentally discovered by game designer Hjalmar Snoep while he was creating an animation late at night. "I realised that the after-image that appeared wasn't part of the animation," he says. "I've never come across a moving after-image even though I have collected lots of optical illusions, so it piqued my interest."

After-image effects are caused by the overstimulation of photoreceptors in the eyes after staring at an image for a long time. Typically, they take on the original shape, often appearing in its complementary colours. But a recent study by Hiroyuki Ito from Kyushu University in Japan showed for the first time how an after-image can vary in shape as well as hue.

Ito is now studying moving after-image illusions, since they aren't easy to explain with existing theories. After viewing Snoep's animation, he suggests that the averaged or accumulated retinal exposure to light over the clip's duration could cause the spiral after-image. "The hypothesis could be tested by calculating the averaged luminance for each pixel during the viewing period," he says. "It's a splendid demonstration as entertainment, as well as from a scientific point of view."

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) ? Protesters smashed bank and storefront windows with hammers and rocks and set fire to a cafe Thursday as economic protests in Spain's second-largest city turned violent.

The riots in Barcelona broke out during a nationwide general strike that closed factories, slowed transportation systems and crippled hospitals. Tens of thousands of people marched in Madrid and other cities protesting an economic plan of spending cuts and tax hikes.

Demonstrators ran past burning trash bins on the street. Some kicked in store windows and hurled stones at riot police.

Authorities arrested 176 protesters across Spain and said 104 people were injured in clashes, including 58 police officers. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Euro zone finance ministers are moving closer to agreeing a combined rescue fund of around 700 billion euros ($924 billion) in Copenhagen next week and anything higher would probably be too ambitious, euro zone diplomats said on Friday.

The Commission hopes that would help motivate other major global powers such as the United States and China to give more funds to the International Monetary Fund to deal with any further fallout from the debt crisis.

Two other proposals sketched out by the EU's executive include one that would allow the EFSF and ESM to operate independently of one another until the EFSF is wound down next year. That would also equate to a joint-lending capacity of 740 billion euros but only until the EFSF is closed.

A third alternative would be to disband the EFSF ahead of 2013, making the ESM responsible for all lending. This model would see total lending capacity at 500 billion euros.

"The question is what Germany might want in return to agreeing to a bigger firewall, be it more austerity from member states, or a German in one of the top posts soon to be vacant in the EU," said a third diplomat.

European governments are jostling for four coveted jobs, including the post of coordinating policy between euro zone finance ministers, known as the president of the Eurogroup.

Germany has put forward its finance minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, for the influential post, sources told Reuters this month, although that move may also be a negotiating ploy.

There are no empirical, objectively verifiable facts showing conclusively that safe and consensual casual sex is less beneficial or more pernicious than monogamous sex. And the a priori premise of anti-casual sex arguments put forth by those like Emma Rush and Clive Hamilton is often rooted in religious soil. As Wilson writes:

Claims of the rightness of a sexuality confined to ?loving relationships? and the alleged profanity of casual sex must refer to the commandments of some metaphysical authority, unless Rush and Hamilton assume an infallible authority for themselves. Alternatively, their positions are social constructs, and if that is the case, we need to be convinced why they ought to have more influence over us than any other social construct. Empirical evidence for claims is the best way to establish this. Rush and Hamilton et al need to prove the ?sacredness? of sex, the profanity of casual sex, and the need to confine sex to loving relationships, or risk being perceived as founding their campaign in a crypto theology that is of no real consequence to anyone other than those who believe in it.
