Based on search results alone, it seems like Microsoft and Sony?s respective next-generation consoles, commonly?referred?to as the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 right now, are already battling a hypothetical war on the internet.
Game website, Ludos Mundi, is predicting that the Xbox 720 will come out on top in the next-generation based on search results alone. According to Google Trends, over the course of the last 11 months, searches for information on a new Xbox has?occurred?much more frequently than searches about a PlayStation 4.
Telling, right? Maybe.
Interestingly, Google Trends actually predicted that Blu-ray movies would beat out the now defunct HD-DVD format. So the tool does have a track record of at least being somewhat accurate.
Of course there?s no way that a tool like Google Trends could definitively predict what console will come out on top during the next video game generation and a number of other factors will certainly come into play.
Still, it definitely could end up being an early indicator.
