A church is a baptist church when it holds to and performs the basic teachings of the New Testament. The very first unique function of the independent fundamental baptist is that the Bible is their sole rule of faith and practice.? A mutual and customary adherence to the entire Bibleand its authority is the cohesive force for all Baptists. For them, their soul bows to the power of the Bible, making reason, the church and all their personal experience subordinates to it.
The baptist church Lexington believes in the autonomy of the local church.? Just about every local church is sovereign and it can?t be manipulated by any kind of hierarchical system, a board or another church. These churches are independent, self-governing, self-supporting, as well as self ? propagating. Their basic foundation is based on the principles of the New Testament: the understanding of the individual to recognise God?s will, the duty of the church to undertake God?s will is based on the cornerstone that its members know God?s will and lastly, the governing authority in the autonomous baptist church is the church itself directed by its Head, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Every individual has the right to worship God in line with what?s influenced by their own conscience.? Baptists believe in an individual?s soul freedom. A person has his own individual will and God directly educates individuals, handles them as individuals and judges people as individuals. For baptists, one must never force their beliefs on others. They could only share the gospel and biblical truths however, not force. Likewise, they feel that whenever a person gets to be a believer, he may pray straight to God through Jesus Christ who is their High Priest without a human intercessor. Only Jesus is the mediator between man and God the Father.
Another distinct feature for a baptist church is that it acknowledges a couple of ordinances ? baptism and the Lord?s Supper. They do not teach that baptism or the Lord?s Supper to have any saving power.? For them, baptism is an outward symbol of their Christianity, the person who has already placed his faith and trust in Christ alone shows that he?s identifying himself with the Lord by being baptized.Baptists believe that baptism by immersion is the sole correct way to be baptized not through sprinkling or pouring.? The Lord?s Supper for baptists is a memorial table, picturing the body and blood of Christ and serving merely as a reminder of His sacrifice.? These two ordinances aren?t sacraments for these people since these neither give salvation, help salvation, nor keep salvation.? They just observe these ordinances because of commandment.
